Dear Friend,
This
month we would like to highlight one of Campus Crusade for Christs
outreaches at Brocks almamater IU. Oh, by the way, we are
first place in the big ten at the moment!!!
Meet Mike. Crazy
Mike as his fraternity brothers call him. Hes a senior at
Indiana University, a Sigma Phi, a natural leader, and passionately
in love with Christ. A lethal combination if there ever was one.
But
Crazy Mike is on to something. His simple vision motivates others to
join him in showing the love of Christ to other students. Its
servant evangelisms new name at IU
the Love Show.
In the fall of 2000, a friend started witnessing to
Mike and he eventually trusted Christ. Slowly, over the course of the
school year, Mike grew in his faith and eventually ended up on a summer
mission project last summer.
It was at Ocean City, NJ, that God started working
in his heart, cultivating a desire to share Gods love to as many
people as possible. Mike remembers, when it came time to set a
faith goal for killing the giants week, I felt God wanted
me to share with everyone in Ocean City.
Sounds like quite a bit more than one set of teeth
can chew. But listen to what happened. Within days, the project rallied
together and ended up showing the Jesus film just off from the boardwalk.
Thousands of people heard about the event and more than 250 came to
see it, with several indicating decisions for Christ.
During that summer, Mike began to rub shoulders with
other students who shared a vision for showing love to people, and a heart for servant evangelism was born.
When Mike returned to campus, he desired that every
person on campus would be shown the love of Jesus Christ in a practical
way. Days later, the Love Show became a reality.
God really convicted me from John 13:34-35. A new command I give
you: Love one another
By this all men will
know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. I am
just broken for the lost on campus. I want them to hear about Christ.
Hundreds of students have met Jesus in practical ways
already. Weve met outside basketball games to pass out candy
and simply say, We just want to show you the love of Jesus Christ
in a practical way. Weve given out over 500 cups of hot
chocolate. And recently we set up a barbeque grill on the main street
and cooked up 100 free hot dogsthats when the police showed
up to tell us we didnt have a permit.
But during that hour or so in front of one of the
local bars, Mike had a number of great conversations. Students realized
that the party lifestyle they had pocketed their IDs for wasnt
going to satisfy the longing in their hearts. And
with a mustard-smeared dog in hand, they turned back with something
new to think about, some One to think about.
Complete with a Web site, a team of students, and
a vision for reaching out to the thousands of students at IU, the
Love Show is a simple, transferable vehicle for servant evangelism.
I would love to see a Love Show at every campus, happening every
day, all year long, says Mike with untamed energy and enthusiasm.
Plese
pray with us today that every Christian student
would love at least one fellow student into heaven this semester through
serving them and sharing Jesus saving message with them.
Personal notes:
Brayden turned 3 on Feb. 17th and really enjoys cupcakes.
Sandi is teaching the 1st through 3rd grade Sunday
School class at church. Brock has some new roles and responsibilities
as he just became Senior Project Manager for his Information Solutions
Team. Abi can spin in circles now and is following Braydens every
step. Praise the Lord for He is good.
Showing love together,
Brock and Sandi
